Chapter 4
July 1st - 11:22 A.M.
Alan stepped out of the car and walked toward the door to his apartment. There will still probably be a police line up there, but who cares, thought Alan. Suddenly, the cell phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Ah, Alan. I see you are entering your apartment now"
"Yeah. And I'm pretty damn tired of your games"
"Alan, you do not want to make me angry. You realize that this game is now about life or death, right? I can see you, right now. I'm watching you. I know exactly what you look like and what clothes you wear. You can't hide from me Alan"
Alan stepped into his apartment.
"You won't shoot me though."
"Oh? You don't think so? Right then, let's play another game"
Alan rolled his eyes.
"Somewhere in your apartment, you will find a map. It's written on a used napkin. All you need to do is find it, but I need some target practice, don't you think? I missed you last time, so why not give me some more practice?"
Alan quickly closed the phone, stuffed it in his pocket, and dove to the ground. Suddenly, a gunshot banged and chrashed through a window. Alan rolled to the left to dodge to falling glass. He stayed low and away from the windows. A bullet whizzed by his neck, and caught him off guard as he fell backwards. A small round object was thrown through the window. A...grenade?
"Where does this guy get his stuff?"
Alan dove behind a couch as the grenade imploded. The flames from the explosion tore through the couch and burned Alan slightly on the leg. He leaped over the burning couch, and quickly dove as another bullet whizzed by him. Suddenly a powerful bullet made a hole through his wall and flew right at him. Alan fell back and dodged the bullet. His phone rang loudly as he dodged bullets. He answered it and ran.
"Alan, you are good at dodging my bullets. How's about another grenade?"
Alan took cover behind a table as the grenade exploded and sent scrap metal flying at Alan. Alan quickly dove to the left. A piece of metal flew by him and hit a trash can. The trash can sliced itself in half and was tossed in the air. A napkin with a few pizza stains slid across the floor toward him. He picked it up.
"I got the map"
The phone rang.
"Good job at getting the map"
"What the hell? Did you hear me..?"
"I can always hear you Alan"
Alan closed the phone and pocketed it. He didn't feel like talking to him anymore.
Suddenly a gun bullet shot straight through the wall and hit Alan's arm. He fell down, clutching his hurt arm as blood seeped from it. He got up, stayed low, and dashed behind a couch. Alan answered his ringing phone.
"Gotcha!"
"Damn you..."
He hung up, and threw the phone into the wall. It crashed, and the phone smashed into three pieces. The guns stopped. He walked out, and saw three phones waiting on his doorstep. One of them rang.
"You can't keep away from me, Alan"
He threw the phone down and ran out of the apartment and stepped into his car. Suddenly, he heard a gun shot. He realized it was aimed at the car. He didn't have much time to escape. He climbed in the back seat and dove out the back window. The rifle shot hit directly where the gas tank is, and it tore apart the metal and hit the gas tank with hard force. The force of the bullet hit a hole in the gas tank. Suddenly a grenade was tossed from up in a building directly next to the apartment. Alan quickly got up and ran as fast as he could. The grenade hit the concrete and imploded with the gas that was seeping from the hole in the gas tank. This created an explosion that was quite larger than normal, and three innocent people in the vacinity were burned to death.
Alan looked up. A cell phone was right in front of his face, ringing violently. He answered it.
"Now you are killing people!"
"Alan, it seems as if you have gone through a lot, so how about we start giving you evidence so you can start figuring out some of these mysteries. There is a video on that phone. Watch it"
The man hung up. Alan searched through the phone and found a ten minute video, and he watched it. It showed Alan waking up, getting dressed, eating breakfast, and getting in his car and driving off to McDonald's, his temporary job. The phone rang again.
"What the hell was that?"
"That, Alan, was the beginning of June 30th"
Alan's eyes lit up. He needed to find the next video, and follow the map and find that file with the website.
"Alan, we also have more things for you to learn. Look at the picture on the phone"
Alan had noticed a picture while he was searching for the video. He viewed it.
"It's a picture of an exploding firework. What of it?"
"That should give you an idea of our plan to destroy this pathetic city"
Alan understood. In three days, the big 4th of July festival always took place. Nearly every person in the city went to that festival. The plan made sense. If this man and anyone who worked with him, could devise some plan that could kill people, it would work. There was heavy security there, that's the only problem. Then, the picture was an
exploding firework.
"Wait a minute...the fireworks..I read the news three days ago.."
"Yes, they are using a new type of firework that was developed just a year ago. It is powered on pure nuclear plutonium, an element that is hardly stable, but can create a massive and fantastic display of fireworks. The risk, however, is that if the explosion is to close to a human..."
"The nuclear explosion would wipe out a large group of people easily"
"Exactly, and we have a plan...as soon as they are ready to shoot a firework, we change its direction, aim it directly at the people of this city"
"That's brilliant, but now that I know your plan, I'm going to stop you"
"I don't think so Alan"
Alan quickly understood. He dove to the right, just in time as five bullets were shot directly at him. He quickly dashed off, running top speed. He quickly kicked a car open, and dove inside.
"Idiot. You left your keys in the car"
He started the car, unfolded the napkin map, and followed it. He had to figure out who this person is, and stop him before innocent people are killed. He also has to find the next video, and find out what happened on June 30th.
