Chapter Three “No! Sorik, are you okay?” Sorik clutched his hurt ribs, and coughed out blood. He was in immense pain. Makar and Adain ran together to find an adult who knew some kind of healing spell. Meanwhile, Ktsed and Loki loomed over Sorik, trying to keep him from coughing more blood. “I’m surprised he’s coughing blood. He should be in pain, yes, but I can’t see how he’s hurt this bad. You elbowed him, and that would hurt his ribs, and he fell from a high point in a tree, but coughing blood? Strange.” Ktsed said. “I don’t have any idea why he would be like this either, Ktsed,” Loki started, “but I sure know Sorik is a great fighter.” He laughed. Makar and Adain came running up with Karlan behind them. Karlan, holding his large staff, kneeled next to Sorik, a grim look on his face. “What happened, children?” he asked. Loki recited all that happened. It took him a short five minutes to explain it, but Karlan was angry afterwards. “Oh if you knew the magic of Sorik, and how bad it would be if he is in so much pain now.” Makar frowned. “Karlan, what are you talking about?” “I don’t know if you need to know this,” Karlan began, “but I shall tell you, as Sorik is a great friend to you. You see, Sorik’s parents, named Allan and Reisha, were famous wizards. Allan survived many things, and is known for destroying the Evil Reincarnate in the Sacred Temple. Reisha was the first woman to ever learn magic, which is quite amazing. “When Reisha gave birth to Sorik, he was…strangely powerful. As an infant, he never felt pain and was oddly strong for his age. He was dropped from Reisha’s hands but never cried, and never had a single bruise. “One fateful day, however, Allan was mysteriously killed. No one knew why, but he was found lying in an open field with a deadly gash to his neck. There was no blood around him, but only a small bit around his neck where the wound was. His sword lay in its sheath on his belt, and had no signs of being drawn that day. The worst part is, that day was his honeymoon, and Reisha had just been getting ready for the lovely night Allan had planned for her. “In Reisha’s misery, she completely quit learning magic, and took no care of herself, or Sorik. A month after Allan’s death, Reisha was found dead, in her house, with Sorik right next to her, asleep. There was a small dagger on Resha’s lap, and Sorik had three nasty sword cuts to his stomach and legs. Apparently, the murderer tried to kill Sorik, but strangely didn’t finish the job, but only left those cuts to him. Sorik was given to me, and I raised him until this day, into the powerful teenager he is now. Although, the most important thing about him is, that whenever he attempts magic, something strange happens. “You see, I have been trying to teach Sorik magic, and the first spell I taught him was the fire spell. However, when he says the words of the spell, there is no fire.” “You mean, he can’t perform magic?” Loki interrupted. “No, young Loki, I mean, his magic is completely negative. When he uses fire, instead there is water. When he uses the water spell, instead there is fire. When he first tried the light spell, there was darkness. It’s quite peculiar.” “So what happens when he uses a spell without a particular element?” asked Makar. “Well, you see, when Sorik uses a spell without an element, it’s even more peculiar. When he uses the levitation spell, instead there is the movement spell. The negative of the levitation spell is the ground spell, that keeps something stuck to the earth, so its very difficult to figure out the strange abilities of Sorik’s magic.” “So, how does all this have to do with right now? Like, Sorik’s strange pain and the coughing up blood and stuff?” Adain inquired. “Oh yes, I must have forgotten that part.” Karlan started. “You see children, Sorik cannot be killed.” The children gasped. “What do you mean?” Ktsed finally asked. “You see, a group of wizard’s figured out that Reisha wasn’t killed. She killed herself. Yes, there was a murderer, but the murderer did not want to kill Reisha. Reisha killed herself by casting one of the Spells of Scarnaises. These spells, have either a miraculous effect or a terrible one, but whenever someone uses one, they die. It takes so much power away from a person, that you cannot survive if you use it. Reisha used the spell of protection, which is one of these spells. She died casting it, and she used it on Sorik, so Sorik is unable to be killed. The murderer tried to kill Sorik, but could not due to the spell Reisha cast, and he escaped. There is, however, a side effect to the spell.” “What is that, Karlan?” Loki asked. “You see, the spell is most powerful as soon as its cast, so it didn’t effect Sorik at the time, but after the spell has been on the target, the effect begins. Now, if there is an attack that would have killed Sorik without the spell, a Shadow is born. This is the only way Shadow’s are born, and they are evil. The Shadows use immensely powerful dark magic, and cannot be killed, unless there is a way wizards have never discovered. There are only three living Shadows, and they wander Scryon, killing the innocent and feeding on the souls of the dead. They grow stronger as they eat more souls, and can eventually become so powerful, that they could destroy all of Scryon.” “Wow, so did we hurt Sorik enough that one of those may come?” Loki asked. “No, I doubt it, but it may be awhile until he’s recovered. Let’s take him inside, it’s getting dark.” As Makar, Ktsed, Loki, and Adain walked slowly toward their homes, a messenger arrived from the dirt road outside of the small village of Escaar. “Zorel’s School of Swords and Sorcery to be opened in two days! Send your children to Ălerd to learn more!” said the messenger loudly for the town to hear. Makar’s jaw dropped. “Guys, I would really like to attend that school!” Loki laughed. “Yeah, but just think how much Rin it would take to attend that place. Our families would have not a chance of affording it.” The messenger continued yelling loudly. “Attending if completely free of charge for your first year!” Adain chuckled. “What was that about not being able to afford it sir Loki?” Ktsed smiled. “Alright guys, let’s ask our parents tonight, and see what happens tomorrow then, alright?” The group of children agreed, and walked off toward their homes. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< The next morning, Sorik was wide awake and just fine. He had no injuries, and was running around with his friends again. “Now what’s this about a school?” he asked. “Oh, Sorik!” Makar began. “There’s this new school that teaches you magic and weapon skills. It starts tomorrow, and we are all going. Maybe you should ask Karlan about it? Then we could all go together!” “Yeah, I’ll ask them now.” Sorik smiled. Sorik walked away, leaving the group to talk about the fun they would have at the school. Sorik entered his home and walked up to Karlan. “Karlan, there is this school…” “I’ve already signed you up for it, Sorik. You are going tomorrow.” “Oh really? Thank you Karlan, I’m quite excited.” “Yes, I know Sorik. Now go play with Makar and Ktsed and them” “Yes, sir,” said Sorik as he ran back outside. “What fools.” Karlan said, as he sharpened his blood-stained sword.

well, you are the only one with immortality. Yet you will probably be jealous of Makar's ability.
NOTE: Every one of the main characters above have a strange ability.
