Prologue People have always been different. It is the way of the world. But... sometimes, it is taken to the extreme. It all started in the year 2000. A group of insane scientists were secretly conducting experiments in an underground lab. They had been arrested in 1986 for conducting illegal and inhumane experiments on humans. But now, they have taken every precaution to conceal they're projects, wiping the memories of their experiments. The scientists merely wanted to enhance a persons senses... better sight, better hearing, etc. But they ended up with something completely different. The people who had been experimented on started having strange things happen to them. The first man they experimented on started having random spells of anger, and had no control over his actions. But what would happen shocked them. They had him sealed, in a dome of solid steel, to make sure there would be no escape. But there was. One night, he ecaped, without them knowing. He escaped into the city, and caused havoc all over, killing anyone in his way through his rage. When the scientists went to search for him, they found him dead in an alleyway. The strangest thing was, he died for no reason. They could find no wounds or places where he could've been struck, and they used x-rays in their lab to see if he had died of a sickness. There seemed to be no reason at all. They examined the palce where he had escaped the steel dome. What they saw frightened them. It looked as if the man had torn a hole in the dome with his bare hands. They decided that they would have to do more testing. They kidnapped people who they thought would be good for testing, and brought them back to their lab. They continued their experiments. Just like before, the specmens started gaining strange powers. They all managed to escape their steel domes. One seemed to merely telport ouside. But before he could escape the lab, he fell to the ground, dead. One woman which they were testing on somehow went invisible and escaped when the opened the dome to check on her. They found her dead, just outside the lab. It seemed that the people who had experimented on slowly died, for the new powers slowly overpowered the body.... The scientists continued their study, and then, finally, in 2006, they perfected their experiments. The specimens, for a reason they did not know, survived. After a few long months of keeping them hostage, they erased the people's memories and sent them back into the world, implanting tracking devices in all of them so they could examine what would happen if they were released into the world. For some reason, however, one person started to remember what had happened. That is John Miller, a fifteen year old boy....

Chapter 1 Silence. That was all I could hear as I ran through the corridor of the lab. I turned a corner, only to see a strange man with wild hair running towards me, preparing some injection. I let out a scream of terror, but the man laughed maniacally "Scream all you want. Nobody will come to your aid." I turned and ran back down the hallway, only to be cut off by another scientist holding the same injection. "It is no use running." he said. I brought my fist back, and in a last ditch attempt, swung it at him. He caught it with a strong grip, squeezing my wrist, making my hand turn blue. He jabbed the needle into my arm and injected the stange liquid.... I awoke with a start, back in my room, staring straight up at the ceiling. I sat up slowly, looking around mt my messy room. Yep, it was my room. I could tell by the many Sports Ilustrated Bikini Model posters plastered up on my wall. "It seemed so real...." I mumbled to myself. The bed shook as I jumped out of it. I had just remembered, my summer vacation had started yesterday! After going to the shower and washing off, I threw on some clothes and headed downstairs. It was silent. "Mom? Dad?" I called. No answer. I figured they were still asleep. I sat down on the couch and flipped on the tv. I looked around on the coffee table for the car magazine my dad had ordered. It wasn't there it. I assumed my dad had brought it into his room. I would've just gotten up and gone in there to get it, but if my parents were asleep, they'd be mad if I walked in. After flipping through all the channels, my sotmach growoled, and for the first time I realized how hungry I was. I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a bowl and spoon, pouring in the cereal and milk. I carried it over to the table, and was ready to site down and eat, when my cat, Tux, jumped up on the table. He suprised me so much that I dropped the bowl. Two things happened at the same time. One, the bowl smashed into the floor, shattering glass all over the kitchen floor. Second, the front door swung open, and my parents walked in. My mother had a sad look on her face, and my father had his arm around her, trying to comfort her, although his eyes were sad as well. I walked around the corner and asked in concern "What's wrong?" Both of their faces brightened when they saw me, and my mom quickly ran over, embracing me. "Uh.. hi mom." I said. My dad waited a moment, as if he was having trouble registering something, then ran forward, embracing me as well. "I missed you too, but come on!" I said, pushing away from my parents' squeezes. "S-sorry, John," said my mom, "but when you go missing for months, your parents are b-bound to be worried...." I opened my eyes wide and said "What did you say?" My father gave me a look of confusion and said "John, you were gone for months... do... do you have a concussion?" He examined my pupils to see if they were the same size as I said "What are you talking about?" When my dad finally decided I was right ijn the head, he asked "Son, where have you been?" "Sleeping, in my bed! Now can you please let me go? I wanna go to the pool!" I exclaimed. My parents looked at each other worriedly, then my mother said "John, honey, the pools are closed." I looked at them in confsuion and said "But summer break just started!" My dad shook his head and led me to the window. I looked out and gasped. There was snow on the ground! "Wha-" "It's December 22. You've been missing since late May.... are you sure you don't remember anything." I nodded and said "I don't understand...." "Well, you weren't the only one...." My mother gasped and said "I wonder if the others were returend as well. Perhaps we can get information from them!" Both of my parents rushed into the living room, while I stood there, looking out the window. They changed to channel 10. The news was on. I could hear the sound fromt he tv from where I stood. "I am standing here in front of the house of John Miller," sure enough, there they were, "for he is the last of the five kidnap victims to be confirmed as found." I saw them walked towards the door, the cameraman following. Then, they knocke on the door. I walked over and opened it, saying "Hello?" The camera turned towards me, and the woman who had been reporting stared at me dumbfoundedly. After a few moments, she said "W-well there you have it, John Miller is back at home, just like all the other victims!" She looked to me and asked "Could we have an interview?" I shrugged and said "Yeah, sure." I invited them in, and they quickly did so. My parents were already at the door, and greeted them happily. Their spirits had been lifted. The reporter nodded to each of them, then came to me. "So, John, are you excited to see you parents?" "Uh, yeah, I guess." "Where were you during those long months?" "In my bed asleep, as far as I know." The reporter raised an eyebrow, then looked to the camera man. She whispered in his ear "Great. All the victims are loonies." I raised an eyerbow and said "You realize that thing is still on, and everyone in the city just beard what you said." The reporter blushed and said "Well, that's all the information we need. Thank you." With that, the two people walked out to their van and drove off. My parents looked at each other, as if remembering something, then said in unison, "Christmas Presents!" They quickly threw their coats on, then said "Alright John, we'll be back in half an hour." Then, they ran out the door to their car, leaving me standing there in confusion.

((Er.... well, I know nobody's reading it, but I want to be able to store my chapters, just in case something happens to my computer....)) Chapter 2 When I finally stopped staring out the open door and shut it, I ran into the kitchen and grabbed the phone. I wanted to talk to my best friend, Mark Gold. He was kind of a jock. You know, star of the football and basketball team, big muscles, good with girls. Anyway, I dialed his number, and listened to the phone ring. Then, someone answered, and said "Hello?" I recognized Mark's mom immediately. "Hey Mrs. Gold, this is John. Can I speak to Mark?" I heard a gasp on the other end, and she asked "John? Is it really you?" I could tell by her voice that she was holding back tears. See, I had been friends with Mark all my life, and Mark's house had always been like my second home. She always told me I was like a second son to her. "Yes, it's me...." I heard the phone drop, and I yelled "Mrs. Gold? Mrs. Gold?" I could tell she wasn't coming back to the phone. I heard her yell something in the backround, and I heard the running of footsteps, but she didn't return to the phone. "That was weird." I said as I hung up the phone. Just then, Tux jumped up onto my lap, purring loudly. I smiled, and wondered aloud "Man, I must've really been gone a long time. I bet you missed me, huh buddy." I let myself relax, but suddenly I heard voices. They seemed to be coming from outside. I stood up and walked to the window. I saw that a car had pulled in my driveway, and saw Mark and his mom running towards the door. They said nothing, yet I still heard their voices.... "I can't believe he's back!" I kept hearing in Mark' voice. I walked over to the door and swung it open, stepping out and closing it behind me. Both Mark and Mrs. Gold stood there for a moment, then suddenly Mrs. Gold rushed towards me. She gave me a tight hug and said "Where have you been!?" "I don't know." I said, frustration filling my voice. I was growing tired of people asking me that already. Mark walked up, trying to act cool. But as I looked into his eyes, I could tell that he felt the same as his mother. When Mrs. gold finally stopped hugging me, I walked over to Mark and said "Hey man, what's up." I held out my hand to give him a five, but he didn't return it. He merely raised an eyebrow and said, a hint of worry in his voice "You seem kinda non-chalant about this.... yet we've been searching for you ever since that day....." I groaned in frustration and said angrily "I told you guys, I don't know what happened! The last thing I remember was falling asleep after the last day of school." Suddenly, Mrs. Gold looked at her watch and said "Work!" She turned and ran to her car, yelling back "Walk back home Mark! And I'm so glad your back John!" Then, she put the car in reverse and pulled out of the driveway. I turned to Mark and said "Come inside..." "Thirsty?" I asked as we walked into the kitchen. "Nah." came Mark's reply. I nodded and ran out of the room, motioning him to follow. I ran up the stairs and to my room, Mark following. He shut the door behind him and sat down beside me on my bed. With a sigh, I looked around the room. It looked the same as when I had gone to sleep that summer night. Except for one thing. There was a small book lying there. I grabbed it, saw it was only made of blank pieces of paper. It said "KEEP OUT!" on the front. I opened it up, and immediately saw something that surprised me. It was in my handwriting. After skimming it for a moment, I realized it was a journal. It said at the top "Day 12 in the lab." It looked at if pages before it had been torn out. I sat it down on the bed beside me, figuring I'd read it later. Right now I wanted to talk to Mark. I paced the room as I asked "Mark.... what happened while I was gone?" I was really waiting for one answer. That would be about my girlfriend, Gina. Of course, at the time, I thought it might have been exgirlfriend. Mark seemed to understand this, and said "Well, everyone's been ok, although they've been sad about you. Especially Gina. She's all quiet now, and won't talk to me because I remind her of yo-" he was cut off by the doorbell. I looked out the window, but couldn't see who it was standing at the door. The only thing I could see was a leg suspended in midair, held aloft by whoever stood there. Then, my parents car pulled up. The leg turned to looked to them, but they hadn't noticed the person. I shruged to mark and walked out of the room, him trailing behind. I trotted down the stairs and to the door. I opened it, but before I could say hello, was embraced with a tight bear hug. "John!" exclaimed the girl who embraced me. "Uh, hi Gina." I said. A cold breeze blew in fromt he open door, ruffling Gina's dark brown hair. She let me go and looked at my eyes. I stared straight back into her blue eyes as she said "I missed you so much!" She didn't ask where I had been, so I figured she had seen the news. I smiled and said "Well, whatever happened, I'm sure I missed you too." She leaned in an kissed me, but not a big make out like you would imagine when a couple just got back together after not seeing each other for years, or months, or whatever. You know, like it the movies. Anyway, that was because my parents had just entered the house. They stopped and smiled at Mark and Gina, and my dad said "Well, I guess everyone was watching the news. As if on cue, a car pulled up, and someone got out. I didn't recognize the person at first, but once they started walking towards my house, I knew who it was. I groaned in annoyance and glance back to Mark, saying "There's your girlfriend." Mark looked around me and said "Oh, we broke up months ago. Probably figures Gina broke up with you and is coming to pick up the pieces. Shallow jerk." I laughed and said " 'bout time!" Mark laughed too, but I heard him say "Actually, she broke up with me. But John doesn't have to know about that." I turned and said "What!?" He jumped in surprise and said "I didn't say anything...." I raised an eyebrow, but before I could ask my question, the girl who had been walking across the lawn arrived at the door and said, "Heeeeeeeeey sexy!" as if I was the only one in the room. She was about to continue when she saw Gina and said, as if she was offended just by being in Gina's presence "Oh, you!" "Get out of here, Alexis." I said angrily. She smirked and said, flipping her blonde hair out of her eyes "Heh, fine, but all I was trying to do was get you hooked up with a REAL woman." she pointed at herself as she did this, and grinned at Gina, as if she had won. Gina clenched her fists angrily, and suddenly pulled my head down to her's and kissed me, except this time, she didn't hold back, since my parents had left the room. By the time Gina had stopped, Alexis was already in her car, and slamming the gas petal. Of course, Alexis was my age, and wasn't old enough to drive without an adult. Then again, she was a spoiled brat. That was when I rremembered the journal. It was if I had remembered something, and felt it would be important to read it. I looked to Mark and Gina and smiled. I put my arm around Gina and said "Hey guys, come with me." I looked at Gina and finished "I want to show you something." I walked up the staris beside Gina, and Mark trailed behind. "You kids hungry? I can make you some lunch." called my mother. Gina reacted to the offer, and it looked as if she was about to say yes, when I shouted "No thanks mom. We're fine." Gina looked at me, and I said "This is important." I led them into my room and shut the door, then walked over to my bed and sat down. I opened up the journal and motioned for the others to sit down beside me. I opened the book, and flipped through the pages. That was when I noticed something. It went till about day thirty-five, then stopped, as if pages had also been torn out here. I shrugged and flipped back to day twelve. Gina satdown on my right side, and Mark on my left. I put the journal in my lap and said "Alright.... I don't know what is going on here, but I think this might explain it. I think.... I dunno, maybe my emory was erased or soemthing, but I do know that part of that memory is inside of this book..." Mark and Gina gasped at the same time, and I smiled and asked "Shall we read?" With that, we all looked down at the little book and began reading. Chapter 3 Day twelve has not gone well. That stuff they gave me is starting to affect me. I've been throwing up for no reason, and I constantly have a chill. I think I might be going insane, because I keep hearing these voices in my head.... the voices of these weirdo scientists. I can't find those stinkin' cameras that they keep seeing me through, but when I do, I'm gonna destroy them.... I'm scared.... I truly am scared. I just wish I was back at home with Mark, or at the movies with Gina.... Day twelve didn't say anything more. I looked up to see Gina had finished before him. Mark looked up only a few seconds after me. After a moment of silence, Gina said "That doesn't give us much information..." I nodded and said, "Well, yes, but days one through eleven have been torn out..." Mark didn't say anything. He stared blankly at the page. Gina clenched her fists and said "Can't you at least think to write down where this place is!?" I frowned and said "I'm sure they sedated me before bringing me there! Besides, it looks to me like I was too scared to think!" Mark stood up and started towards the door, saying "I bet none of this is real!" I looked at him and said "But this is my handwriting! the evidence is right in front of you!" He looked back and said "It is probably just some stupid story you wrote because you got bored or something!" I held my head in frustration, but then somrething hit me. For some reason, I seemed to know that soemthing later on would tell us something important. I sat down and picked up the journal, and flipped the page. I began to read Day thirteen I did it! I found the video camera! Not only that, but one night, when they thought I was asleep, I heard the scientists say that the injection would give us superpowers or something. That's right, us! There are more people in here! Perhaps those were some of the voices I heard! Anyway, I managed to pulled the caamera down without them noticing. They must've dozed off or something. They came down to check on me, since the camera was gone, and I heard them say that my injection had soemthing to do with mindpowers. I wasn't sure if it was true until... I read the scientists mind! He entered the dome, and I heard hims ay he was going to sedate me again, but his lips didn't move! All I had to do was concentrate hard on doing it, and I can read his mind! It's amazing. Of course, I didn't try to fight the sedative. After all, I didn't have an escape plan. I looked at the page for a moment, then flipped to the next page. It contained the rest of the information of day 13. I held out the journal and said in confsuion "Well..... read this..." I handed it to Mark, and Gina rushed over to read over his shoulder. The thought of having superpowers didn't click until the other finished reading. They didn't say anything, but as I concentrated on them, I began to hear there voices. "None of this makes sense!!!" I heard Gina scream. "Just got backa nd he's already playing pranks... this is below you John!" Mark thought angrily. "I'm not lying!" I said, jumping up and stomping over to Mark. "I... didn't say anything dude." I know!" I snapped. Mark raised an eyebrow and said "But...." that was when it hit him. The words in the journal were true. Mark bit his lip. This was making him pretty nervous. "It's great that your back John, but I.... I gotta go." He backed away and out of the room, and I called "Wait! Meet me here tomorrow after school. Well, I'm sure I won't be going, but after your school. This makes me nervous... and I'd rather have someone here to read it with." Mark stared at me for a moment, then finally said "Alright." With that, he walked down the hall, down the stairs, and through the front door. After a long moment of silence, Gina looked to me and said "So... this is all really true." I swallowed and said "Yeah, I guess." She nodded and said "Well... if Gold doesn't show, I'll be here for you.... well, even if he does show.... I want to find out." I nodded. Gina handed me the journal that she now held in her hand, and gave me a quick peck on the cheek. "See you tomorrow." She said, grinning. She walked out of the rom and down the stairs. I walked over to the window and watched her walk away. When she turned the corner and walked out of sight, I sat down on my bed and threw the journal to the nightstand. I lay my head on the pillow and closed my eyes. Within seconds I was asleep.
